Sam was born in Arkansas, the older of 2 sons, born to Ambrose and Eliza Sparks Bull. His dad was 47 and mother 20 when he was born. John Franklin Bull was the other son,
2 years younger (believed to be the grandfather of Hugh Cox). Sam was 6 or 7 yrs old when the family moved to Goldthwaithe, Texas, and he grew up in Bull Springs,
which was named for the family.
On Feb. 9, 1876, he married Emily Nell Booth and had 11 children: Benjamin Franklin, Charles Edwin, Samuel Earl, John Edwards,
Theron Ambrose “Pete”, Myrtle Susan, Annie Lacy, Marcella, and Pauline Sparks survived to adulthood.
In 1917, he sold his land and moved to Arizona by chartering a
couple of rail cars to move his horses and household goods. His daughter Annie Lacy Bull and her husband Marshall L Miller were newly married at that time and decided to go with him.
Sam bought a ranch in the San Simon Valley. They found wild game plentiful and lots of honey bees. Annie and Marshall stayed till the birth of their first child then moved back to Texas.
Her brother, John Bull just out of the army (WW1) came to help Sam in 1921. John married Ethel, they lived and worked with Sam until his death in 1938, then John sold the ranch and moved on to Calif.
His son, Charles Edward Bull played Abe Lincoln in movies without make-up.
