Eva Flaming with husband Jacob November 5, 1862 - July 19, 1949 |
Eva was born in Poland, as far as we know, as Eva Nikkel. She migrated to the United States from Prussia. The first official record of her is the marriage certificate, documenting her marriage to Jacob Flaming. They were married in Hillsboro, Kansas in 1880, then moved to Albuquerque where Jacob worked as an elevator operator until he died in 1933. He is buried there.
Eva moved to Rodeo in about 1912, in order to live with her daughter Bertha during her last years. She would sit in a rocker, rock, crochet and sing. She did not speak English very well. She also did not see well, and had one crochet pattern, a pineapple, memorized. She made several large items using this pattern, including a bedspread.
Eva and Jacob had six children, three died as infants. Then came Bertha, who was born in Kansas and married Alva Love, and also a son named Herman, and a daughter named Lydia. See A J Love. |
