Born in Douglas, AZ, Nancy spent her elementary school days at the Portal school. Nancy was the oldest child of James Allen and Grace Sanford Cox.
She graduated from Douglas High School and in 1945 married Roy W Hiatt. They had two children, Vickie J Byrne and Roy Jr. They spent most of their married life in Tucson.
