Alva was originally from Kentucky as was his Father. His mom was from Illinois.
He came to the Rodeo area from Albuquerque in about 1912 and bought a ranch 10 miles north of Rodeo, not far from the Cienega.
He married Bertha Flaming and they had three boys, Alvin, Daniel and William. They were members of the Baptist Church. Alva was a rancher and a carpenter who worked all over the area in addition to homesteading 320 acres in the 20’s. He also planted the first cotton in the San Simon Valley. He died of throat cancer.
