Hidalgo County New Mexico

Hattie Price Richards
August 15, 1890 - June 19, 1975
She was the third child born to James Price (1862-1929) and Lorena Belle Jeanes (1866-1943) Richards. She was born at Ramer, McNair County, Tennessee and while still young, the family relocated to Ellis County, Texas and then to Bosque County, where they settled on good farming land between the Brazos and Bosque rivers.

Hattie attended grade school at Center Hill and went on to Meridian College where she obtained a teaching certificate. She taught school in Bosque County before marrying Bert in 1913. She didn’t have to change her last name although they were not related. After the family relocated near Rodeo, Hattie taught at Lone Oak School and during the war years in Animas and Rodeo. Hattie believed that their children should get a good education and moved both to Douglas and San Simon to put the chidren in school.

She was a devout Christian and a long-time member of the Rodeo Baptist Church. Hattie loved to grow flowers and had a beautiful rose garden by her home in Rodeo. She died on June 19th, 1975, in Odessa, Texas, during a visit to her oldest daughter, Katherine Rutherford. She was buried beside Bert in the Rodeo, Cemetery.
