Russell, Maude Catherine Richards
January 13,1901 - August 26, 1991 |
Maude was born to Hampton Evans and Emma Mildred Richards at Clifton, Texas.
Their mother died when Maude was just 5 and all of the children had a difficult time growing up, particularly Maude and Velma.
They traveled in a buggy with their dad, and stayed much of the time with an aunt and a grandmother. In later years, they stayed
in the homes of older brothers who had married. They worked hard in the fields and just as hard as grown women in their own homes.
Maude had a keen sense of humor and seldom had a harsh word to say of anyone. If somebody told her some gossip, she would just say, “You don’t say”, and let it go at that.
One of her nieces, who lived nearby, remembers as a child walking to Aunt Maude’s house for some “boughten” bread and butter because all that her Mom had at home was that old home-made stuff.
Maude was married to Clarence Price Russell in a double wedding with her sister Velma and Clarence’s brother Sam on October 31, 1919.
They made their home for 59 years in Rodeo. They had no children, but many nieces, nephews and little friends were welcomed to their home and spent many happy hours there.
Maude died in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
